EMPOWER 2.0. Up-and-down-and-around in a busy September.
The village of Føns in Denmark is one of the pilot projects in the Interreg project EMPOWER2.0
The project/pilot is about empowering citizens for clean green transition. Day-to-day the project is about combining ground source heatpumps with their own citizen driven heating system. It is Denmark’s newest and smallest community energy system, with 49 prosumers. The main partners from Denmark are University of Southern Denmark (SDU), represented by Professor Hossein Ramezani, and the municipality of Middelfart, represented by head of climate Morten M. Westergaard.
The pilot is empowering citizens in the village, citizens from Denmark and audience from the rest of the world.
September 2021 has been busy. Attending at the national climate festival with approx. 10.000 attendees the villagers offered guided tours to the project, and inspiring/empowering people from all of Denmark. These tours were both 2. and 3. September.
The 8. September they held a village meeting to empower their community to become more efficient prosumers. The empowerment was by learning from research from SDU about the new heat pump system. And the villagers also worked on empowering each other by training each other in optimize the system by personally working with the “return-temperature” from their homes. Calculations suggest that by optimizing each homes return-temperature there could be savings around 10.000 euros.
Later in September they will receive interested students from a high-school in Greve, and they will give inspiration to a delegation of experts from the Baltic Sea Region.
